Service Technician I – Focused on Instrument, Fire, and Respiratory services in the Vallen Safety Services group. You will perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and repairs on safety equipment for established customers on a scheduled basis.
EssentialJob Duties And Responsibilities
- Conduct service calls.
- Identify equipment discrepancies.
- Prepare accurate and timely Technician Worksheets (TWS) and reports.
- Provide customer service during inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of life safety equipment including, but not limited to: fire extinguishers, fire hose, gas detection monitors, respiratory equipment, fall protection equipment, and safety shower/eyewash units.
- Document testing and repairs accurately and ensure proper invoicing.
- Ensure customers receive all required documentation.
- Apply basic knowledge of regulatory standards (State, OSHA, NFPA, etc.) and Vallen SOPs.
- Always exhibit safe work practices.
- Assist in shipping and receiving, unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, matching purchase orders to sales orders, and distributing to sales associates.
- Use company assets responsibly (vehicle, inventory, safety equipment, laptop, scanner, test equipment, tools, radio, cell phone, fuel/credit cards).
- Maintain proper care of all assets as defined by Vallen policies.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Minimum 1 certification (manufacturer/state related).
- Minimum 1‑year related experience.
- Mechanically inclined.
- Relevant experience in inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of safety equipment.
- Ability to repair and service equipment sold by Vallen North America.
- Current motor vehicle license with good driving record.
- Commercial Driver’s License required if carrying hazardous materials.
- Proficient with hand tools.
- Complete repairs and maintenance in a timely and accurate manner.
- Assist warehouse personnel with order fulfillment if needed.
- Maintain minimum productivity of 80% within 60 days.
- Keep certifications and licenses current through continuing education.
- Read, write, and comprehend English (operational, process, and quality instructions).
- Service work performed indoors and outdoors in the field.
- Possibility of hazardous environments with required safety precautions.
- Work in cold/heat climates during day or night operations.
- Regularly required to talk and hear.
- Occasional lifting of items up to 55 lbs.
- Climb stairwells up to 15 levels.
- Ascend and descend ladders up to 24' high.
- Walk at a normal pace for up to 15 continuous minutes.
- Work from a standing position for 8‑10 hours.
- Bend, climb, and stoop as needed for access of equipment.
- Pass all test requirements to be approved to work offshore (if applicable).
