Job Description
BAE Systems, a Top Ten Prime Contractor to the Department of War, is hiring a well rounded Civil Engineer to help us conceptualize, execute, and commission modernization and new construction projects at Holston Army Ammunition Plant. In this position, you will be supporting the Ordnance Systems, Inc. (OSI) Business at our Kingsport, TN facility. This position will work a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off, and our hybrid approach provides plenty of on-site collaboration and support for new staff onboarding as well as the flexibility for working remotely some days.
In this role, you will be responsible for civil engineering technical tasks to support design and construction of multi-million-dollar modernization programs. Your work will include planning, design, analysis, and engineering inputs into the construction and maintenance of chemical plant facilities. You will work on a multi-discipline team with process, mechanical and electrical engineers to evaluate, perform and determine structural and civil engineering needs for large scale construction projects.
You will provide technical oversight and give field support throughout the construction and commissioning process. Background or experience in environmental regulation compliance is a plus as this position will require working with the Tennessee Department of Environmental Protection as well as other applicable governing bodies.
- Perform project engineering working in a multi-discipline engineering team to plan, design, construct, and maintain chemical plant facilities including supporting utilities and infrastructure.
- Select construction materials and methods, create engineering estimates, write specifications and scopes of work, create and supervise the preparation of civil drawings, control cost, and manage work to meet project schedules.
- Inspect tank farms, roads, railroads and underground pipelines to determine the integrity and safety of the structure. Make recommendations concerning any needed modifications.
- Oversee mapping and surveying functions which involve layout of new facilities and maintenance of records of site plans, plant layouts, including underground utilities.
- Design and Installation of Water Distribution Systems, Sanitary and Industrial Sewer Systems, Stormwater Infrastructure, Road Alignment and Profiling, Grading, Site Layout.
- Provide technical oversight during construction including shop drawing review and approval, ensure construction is in accordance with plans, specifications, and good construction practices.
- Consider safety in all aspects of design and construction.
- Prepare Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) in conformance with TDEC requirements.

Required Skills and Education- Typically a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field and 6+ years experience.
- Professional Engineering License in Tennessee or ability to obtain license within 6-12 months.
- Working knowledge of CADD tools such as AutoCAD, and Civil 3D
- Working knowledge of Water
CAD, RUSLE2, Hydroflow Express, Hydroflow Hydrographs, Autodesk Storm & Sanitary Analysis - Working knowledge of Low Impact Development Guidelines.
- Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as UFC, IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, NFPA and AISC, TDEC Erosion Prevention Sediment Control Measures, AWWA, TDOT, AASHTO.
- Ability to direct design teams and external design firms, review and approve design packages from equipment suppliers and design firms providing constructability input as it relates to the civil aspect.
- Capable of creating required engineering documentation using Microsoft Office M365 Suite products including Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, and Access.
- Familiarity with Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS).
- Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) Level II EPSC Certification.
- Education or certifications in Environmental compliance.
- Skilled in principles of project management.
- Experience in the design and construction of chemical facilities that involve the use of acids and solvents in the production of energetic materials. #LI-Hybrid#LI-JR1
