Performs periodic services, inspections, and replacement and repair of tires for fleet vehicles and equipment.

• Matches current tire type with inventory stock;
• Mounts both by hand and machine appropriate tire, balances tires to ensure correct wear for optimum tire life;
• Performs oil changes and vehicle and equipment inspections;
• Repairs and/or applies paint to equipment wheels;
• Performs minor maintenance and repair work i.e.: replaces alternators, belts, hoses, and starters;
• Provides service and maintenance assistance to Fleet Mechanic including checking and replacing electrical wiring, inspecting belts and hoses and replacing when indicated;
• Responds to field service requests to repair and/or replace tires, operates jacks and associated tools to remove wheel(s);
• Performs visual check of other tires for proper operating condition;
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of the safe and proper use of all applicable tools, equipment, and machines;
• Knowledge of the streets, locations, and addresses within the City of Kingsport;
• Basic understanding of automotive fundamentals;
• Skill in mounting and balancing tires;
• Skill in following oral and written instructions;
• Skill in operating a variety of air, hand, and power tools;
• Must have a basic set of tools to perform the job.

High school graduate or high school equivalent; plus experience equivalent to one year full-time work in a repair facility with responsibility for changing oil and tires. Current and valid State of Tennessee or Virginia Commercial Driver’s License or must be able to obtain within 6 months of employment.
