Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join the Speech and Language Therapy service based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn. This position will enable you to develop specialist skills in the assessment and management of acquired communication difficulties and acute dysphagia with a range of conditions within supportive and friendly teams. The job will be split between the stroke and non-stroke acute services.

We welcome applications from Band 5 SLTs with at least 1 year of relevant experience looking to develop into a Band 6 role, as well as those ready to transition immediately to a specialist post. We strive to deliver high-quality care in line with the current evidence base and are committed to providing regular supervision and CPD.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment, differential diagnosis and treatment for adults with acquired communication disorders across acute wards and stroke services  provide specialist dysphagia assessment and therapy for patients across acute wards and stroke services  ensure a multi-professional approach is carried out in the implementation of patient care across acute wards and stroke services.

Person Specification Qualifications/training and professional development
  • Attainment of recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy as recognised by RCLST and HCPC
  • Current Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration
  • Evidence of successful completion of at least level B dysphagia competencies
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD to meet regulatory body professional standards
  • Membership of RCLST
  • Membership of any relevant special interest groups (CENs)
Experience
  • Significant experience of working with dysphagia at post graduate level
  • Significant experience of working with acquired communication difficulties
  • Evidence of effective working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience in delivering education and training packages
  • Experience of using Videofluoroscopy and/or FEES to inform patient management
Skills, abilities and knowledge
  • High level of competency in the assessment and management of adults with a range of communication and swallowing disorders
  • Excellent verbal communication/interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt these according to the situation
  • Membership of relevant special interest groups
  • Experience in supervising undergraduate Speech & Language Therapists
