Position OverviewThe veterinary assistant provides support to veterinarians and technicians in daily tasks: cleaning and maintaining equipment; feeding, exercising, grooming patients; preparing and sanitizing surgery suites; restraining and handling patients; clerical and administrative work. They deliver quality care for all patients and provide exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities- Provide compassionate care to all patients.
- Greet patients and owners, perform vital sign checks.
- Triage, perform physical exams, administer treatments as directed by licensed veterinary technicians.
- Calm and soothe anxious patients.
- Assist with medication administration and patient restraint.
- Perform laboratory tests and radiographs.
- Operate and maintain hospital equipment (EKG, fluid pump, syringe pump, anesthesia monitors, etc.).
- Prescribe and administer medications, maintain controlled‑drug logs.
- Feed patients, record appetites, report abnormalities.
- Communicate with clients, ensuring they feel comfortable.
- Educate clients on insurance, wellness, and medicinal plans.
- Maintain cleanliness of hospital, use chemicals safely, complete laundry.
- Bath and care patients staying overnight; ensure release readiness.
- Adhere to safety and wellness regulations.
- Understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Maintain accurate medical records.
- Show up for work regularly; full‑time presence essential.
- Promote hospital products and services and support the organization.
- Respond respectfully and promptly to directions from DVM or LVT.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the manager or specialty area.
- Relevant experience in a veterinary environment performing all duties of this position.
- Start date no earlier than 1/5/2026.
- Monday through Friday (4 days on with 1 day off).
- Rotating weekends (Saturday and Sunday).
