Licensed Nursing Assistant – Surgical Services (FT – Nights/Weekends)

Position

Purpose:

All KHI employees are expected to perform their respective tasks and duties in such a way that supports KHI’s vision to be the kindest, highest quality health system in the country. Under the general supervision of the Clinical Director and clinical leadership of the Registered Nurse, and in collaboration with the clinical team, the LNA performs clinical nursing procedures and functions within the Arizona (AZ) LNA Scope of Practice.

The incumbent supports the plan of care for each patient, as determined by the health care team, and in accordance with the goals of the organization. Works to improve patient safety and patient experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for attending to the daily living and safety needs of an assigned group of patients.
  • Assist registered nursing personnel in the care of patients by performing various patient care activities and related non‑professional services.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other departments to provide timely, effective care consistent with individual needs, choices and preferences.
  • Obtain and record vital signs, heights and weights per policy.
  • Meet patient’s personal hygiene and basic needs in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that the patient is comfortable, necessary supplies are available and in reach.
  • Keep patient environment safe and tidy.
  • Provide patient‑specific care as appropriate to age of patient.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients, including use of therapies such as play, written, and picture board.
  • Report changes in patient’s condition, out‑of‑normal values, patient/family concerns or complaints to nurse, charge nurse and/or supervisor.
  • Apply AIDET and other evidence‑based behaviors.
  • Participate in developmental and organizational initiatives for process improvement and quality assurance as requested.
  • Follow appropriate infection control procedures.
  • Perform and accurately document the following procedures as directed by the RN/LPN:
    • Blood glucose checks and documentation
    • Discontinuation of urinary catheters
    • Discontinuation of peripheral IVs
    • Performs skin care interventions and treatments, as permitted by state regulation.
  • Maintain patient and staff confidentiality.
  • Assist in orientation of new staff as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Unit‑Specific Responsibilities (Med/Surg, Peds, PCU, ICU, Observation Unit, ER)
  • Maintain educational and training requirements to fulfill the role and responsibilities of a Unit Coordinator.
  • Regularly update patient communication boards.
  • Perform hourly rounds with patients.
  • Perform bedside shift report.
  • Assure patient belongings are accounted for on admission and transfers and returned at discharge.
  • Perform designated admitting tasks.
  • Record accurate intake and output for each patient.
  • May provide backup support as a Camera Tech in specific units: demonstrate competence with operating video monitor equipment, manage the monitor, display rooms, add and delete beds monitored, and be aware of actions for downtime.
  • Receive report on video patient assignment from nurse, stay at the monitor at all times, and report changes in patient behavior/status.
  • Document and sign “Record and Video Monitoring form” (verbal reminders, staff interventions, fall alerts).
  • Identify behaviors that may precipitate a fall and be aware of the proper steps if patient is not seen on the video monitor.
Home Health and Hospice
  • All documentation is completed accurately and timely (no later than 8 am the next day).
  • Productivity: average no less than 5–6 patients per day.
Hospice House
  • Perform hourly rounds with patients.
  • Perform bedside shift report.
  • Assure patient belongings are accounted for on admission and transfers and returned at discharge.
  • Perform designated admitting tasks.
  • Record accurate intake and output for each patient.
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or greater.
