Purpose:

Key ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the physician and in accordance with the Arizona State Nurse Practice Act, provide nursing care to patients in compliance with nursing standards and regulations. Utilize the nursing process to assess patient health needs, implement nursing interventions, develop and evaluate the plan of care, and collaborate with the health care team. Contribute to orientation of new staff as requested.
Qualityof Care and Nursing Process
- Provide evidence-based care to prevent Healthcare Acquired Conditions and hospital readmissions.
- Practice standard precautions and maintain infection control.
- Comply with hand hygiene guidelines and work to reduce hospital-acquired infections.
- Perform nursing assessments per hospital policies; collect patient data from patients, families, and providers; complete comprehensive histories and plan of care; involve patients and families as appropriate.
- Derive nursing diagnoses from assessment data; formulate and implement care plans; involve patient and family in decision-making; educate patients as appropriate.
- Document care management clearly; complete admission assessments; record responses to treatments and nursing interventions; provide discharge instructions.
- Regularly evaluate patient progress and adjust care plans as needed.
Maintain bedside shift reports, update patient communication boards, perform hourly rounds, and apply evidence-based behaviors to support patient satisfaction.
QualificationsEducation: Associate Degree in Nursing or graduate of a Nursing Diploma program.
Certification / Licensure: Current, valid Arizona RN license or compact state RN license; current BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Unit Specific RequirementsMedical Surgical Units:
Basic EKG competency within 3 months;
De-escalation Techniques course within 6 months and every 2 years thereafter.
Pediatrics: PALS certification within 6 months;
De-escalation Techniques within 6 months and every 2 years.
Intensive Care Unit: ACLS required on hire;
Basic EKG competency within 30 days.
Progressive Care Unit: ACLS within 3 months;
Basic EKG and De-escalation within required time frames.
Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS within 3 months;
De-escalation; ESI training; TNCC within 24 months.
Other units include specialized requirements as listed (e.g., ECHO, Cath Lab, Womens Services, etc.).
PreferencesEducation: Bachelors in nursing.
Experience: Experience in respective clinical areas preferred; various unit-specific preferences noted.
