Purpose:

ResponsibilitiesWork under the direction of the Physician and RN to provide care to patients in compliance with hospital standards and regulations. Responsible for providing direct patient care services and procedures. In addition to providing the same duties as a CNA/LNA, they will also draw blood, administer IVs, perform EKG readings and monitor vital signs and prepare treatment rooms for examination. Assess patient needs, and implement interventions based on assessment data.
Strive to provide excellent patient care with compassion, discretion, cheerfulness, accuracy, patience, flexibility in scheduling, calmness in emergent situations, the ability to work well with team members, receiving and applying feedback from peers and supervisors.
- Performs a rapid appraisal of a patient's immediate stability and responds as necessary to insure the well-being of the patient.
- Transport patients to other departments on monitors, as appropriate and requested.
- Assists RNs and Physicians with physical exams, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including but not limited to EKG, wound cleansing and irrigation, initial, repeat and orthostatic vital sign measurements, application of monitor leads, specimen collection, and transports stable telemetry or non-monitored patients to nursing units.
- Document all care/procedures provided.
- Recognizes work priorities and responds accordingly, anticipating the needs of the department.
- After training and where state statute permits, performs blood glucose testing; phlebotomy; saline lock insertion; IV discontinuation; bladder catheterization and removal.
- Monitors supply stock levels and reports needs. Notifies environmental services (EVS), maintenance, biomedical engineering, and others to ensure proper equipment and a safe environment is maintained.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Certification: BLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Licensure: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA);
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Position uses problem solving skills and ability to effectively communicate with patients, patients’ families, interdisciplinary and ancillary departments within the organization.

Work Requirements- Able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills.
- Able to manage technical business equipment i.e., phone, fax, computer etc.
- Able to assist with the movement of an adult patient weighing up to 300 lbs.
- Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.
- Able to sit for 3-5 hours per day;
Able to stand for 3-5 hours per day;
