About the Position:

  • Engineering Technician – Starting Salary – Range 13, $21.09
  • Engineering Technician Senior – Starting Salary – Range 14, $22.15
  • Engineering Technician Specialist – Starting Salary – Range 16, $24.42

For this position, the work environment is primarily field-based, with occasional office duties. Travel to outlying county locations, including Bullhead City, Lake Havasu City, the Northern Arizona Strip, and other areas of Mohave County, may be required. Interaction with the public will occur both in the field and, occasionally, at the counter. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with weekends and holidays off.

Responsibilities
  • Assists the Floodplain Division supervisors and managers in their functions through conducting calculations, engineering research, subdivision, site plan and permit application review, floodplain determinations, hydrology analysis and review, and analyzing and providing recommendations in response to public inquiries, concerns and service requests.
  • Inspects construction sites and makes floodplain elevation determinations.
  • Prepares and monitors property floodplain information reports, floodplain use permits, elevation certificates, and any other documentation required for floodplain management.
  • Prepares and monitors floodplain use permits.
  • Prepare map exhibits, presentations and reports to related Floodplain Management using CAD, GIS and other presentation/graphics software
  • Coordinates with State, Federal, and local regulatory authorities regarding permitting and development.
  • Reviews proposed building permits for floodplain requirements.
  • Processes permit data in computerized system in coordination with other departments and divisions. Updates and researches databases.
  • Assists Professional Engineers in evaluating drainage study submittals for accuracy.
  • Answers questions regarding floodplain issues.
  • Investigates and responds to complaints of floodplain regulation violations.
  • Using standardized reporting formats, develops and prepares submittals to FEMA, Army Corps of Engineers, Arizona Department of Water Resources and other Federal, State and local jurisdictions for projects.
  • Files and maintains records.
  • May lead special projects or programs including assisting with development of policies and procedures, training and/or supervision of assigned staff.
  • Guides, trains, reviews the work of, and oversees less experienced Engineering Technicians or others as assigned in learning, performing and completing job tasks which include, but not limited to, FEMA Preliminary Map review and comment, LOMR review and comment, outreach strategies and implementation, development of resolutions and or IGA’s related to floodplain mapping and grant projects, base flood calculations, web map support and programming, grant reporting, research, etc.

    Reviews work for accuracy and compliance to established procedures.
  • Prepares and advises on submittals for American Public Works Association (APWA) Accreditation, NFIP Community Assistance Visits (CAV), NFIP Community Rating System cycle verification (CRS) if applicable.
  • Prepare and/or advise on preparation of exhibits, documentation and calculations for presentations, budget documents, outreach programs and federal and state grant programs.
