About Planning And Zoning

The Planning and Zoning Division facilitates land development beneficial to Mohave County and its residents. Title 11 Chapter 6 of the Arizona Revised Statutes provides the legal requirements and responsibilities for planning and zoning activities in the County. The division develops and maintains a General Plan, a Zoning Ordinance, and Subdivision Regulations to comply with the statutes. The division seeks to provide excellent customer services by assisting developers and the general public in navigating the requirements while furthering public health and safety.

Starting Salary - Range 8, $16.53

This position is in the Planning and Zoning division.

  • Work is performed in an office environment.
  • Requires interaction with the public at the counter and on the phone.
  • Flexible work schedule:
    Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or four ten-hour shifts.
  • Possible travel to attend training or to other county offices.

Duties
  • As assigned, assign, train, oversee or directly supervise and review the work of subordinate clerical and office employees. May assist in interviewing and screening applicants and recommending disciplinary actions.
  • Establish work procedures and priorities.
  • Assist the public in person and/or on phone; record complaints, take messages and route calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Establish and maintain standards, procedures, and techniques for efficiency of work.
  • Research and remain up to date with state directives and statutes applicable to the assigned department/division using appropriate resources.
  • Compose letters, routine correspondence and all documents in following up previous work, responding to inquiries, obtaining and updating information and making notifications.
  • Coordinate meetings and take minutes.
  • Establish and maintain filing, indexing and cross-referencing systems.
  • Review incoming and outgoing computer data for accuracy, completeness and quality.
  • Scan and fax related documents.
  • Design and create documents, brochures and/or newsletters in the course of business using a variety of computer software including Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Maintain purchasing records or reports, allocate expenses and prepare expense reports.
  • As required, pay invoices, track budget, and prepare change orders and payment applications.
  • Receive and process routing requisitions for department. Allocate items to a variety of accounts according to prescribed classifications.
  • Verify and check work for completeness and accuracy and resolve errors and omissions.
  • Process departmental timesheets and paychecks, route personnel transactions, invoices, checks, vouchers or other records.
  • Enter and/or record data in appropriate systems. Compile and compute data from files and other sources in preparing reports.
  • Prepare submittals for review and track assigned projects.
  • Gather and prepare material for special reports, forms, policy formulation and summaries at the request of superiors.
  • Perform assigned research for the delegated area.
  • Operate common office machines to include computer keyboards and related peripheral equipment.
  • Present and conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times.
  • Communicate in a courteous and helpful manner as well as clear and concise manner at all times.
  • Resolve complaints within scope of information and authority, and/or refer to chain-of-command as appropriate.
Secondary Job Functions
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Performs special assignments as requested.

    Exercise regular and predictable attendance and punctuality in accordance with Mohave County Personnel Policies and Procedures.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Minimum of Three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative support experience.
  • Two (2) of the three (3) years performing specialized support in the assigned department/division or comparable agency/organization.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.

Job Requirements
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for operation of motor vehicles on Arizona roads at the start of employment and maintain said license while employed in this position.
  • Provide acceptable driving history at no cost to the County.
