Job Summary
The Bullhead City Library was originally opened in 1990 as a one‑room library located in the Board of Supervisors office. The Mohave County Library Department seeks a Library Assistant I to serve patrons in the beautiful Bullhead City, AZ location.
About the PositionThis role is primarily performed inside the library, with most hours spent at public‑service desks assisting patrons and supporting the smooth daily operation of the library. It requires regular, direct interaction with the community and may include occasional public speaking for library programs and outreach assignments. Travel is generally not required, but some assignments may involve travel within the county; a county vehicle is available when necessary.
Employees may be asked to cover bookmobile runs, assist with outreach activities, support programs, or provide coverage at other library locations as needed. The position is part of a progression series with opportunities for advancement based on experience, performance, and demonstrated competencies.
Work Schedule- Tuesday–Thursday: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
- Friday–Saturday: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (holidays off)
Frequent standing, stooping, bending, crouching, pushing, pulling and overhead reaching; may require climbing ladders or step stools; may involve lifting objects 0–25 lb and occasionally 25–50 lb. May need to operate a bookmobile to deliver materials to other library facilities.

- Maintain, with relative independence, a significant phase or segment of a clerical process or office activity.
- Maintain and establish associated files, entering information into filing and data systems to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Prepare standardized reports and statements; compile and submit data for statistical reports, internal operating studies, or policy formulation.
- Develop and run reports and queries.
- Perform a variety of clerical tasks: answering phones, responding to routine requests, assisting patrons in completing forms, maintaining records, typing various forms and memos, and filing.
- Prepare library borrower cards, maintain patron files, and distribute informational materials.
- Assist in maintaining a pleasant and informative library, including creation of displays.
- Assist with collection development, inventory, and shelf maintenance; search shelves for misplaced or missing books.
- Check materials in and out, maintain files of materials in circulation, maintain reserve lists and hold notices, notify patrons when materials are available for pickup; maintain delinquency notification files and record fines paid.
- Provide patrons with instruction on the use of library tools and reference resources, identify appropriate sources, and assist with bibliographies, brochures, pamphlets, and handouts.
- Maintain a clean and organized facility.
Outreach
- Assist in training new library coordinators and volunteers.
- Plan, develop, and present activities or programs for children, teens, and adults for community libraries and bookmobiles.
- Drive bookmobile to designated locations; oversee stocking, cleaning, inspection, and maintenance.
- Oversee the work of the Bookmobile Coordinator.
- Maintain the interlibrary loan process for community libraries and bookmobiles.
- Maintain current and updated community library pages on the library website.
- Prepare brochures, pamphlets, and handouts for all community library programs.
- Assist with packing and unpacking of the weekly courier.
Technical Services
- Classify and catalog library materials using bibliographic records from other databases.
- Print call‑number labels for cataloged materials.
- Add bibliographic information for leased or downloadable materials to the library database.
