Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant - Adolescent Medicine
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to work as a hospital provider on our Adolescent Medicine unit at King of Prussia Hospital. The role involves being the front‑line provider for patients with medical needs, performing assessments, creating plans of care, ordering medication and diagnostic studies, interpreting results, and updating patients and families. The candidate will act as the point person for all consults and interdisciplinary team collaboration.
In collaboration with an attending physician, the provider will work with a patient population that matches their delineation of privileges and skill set, collaborate with range of healthcare professionals, and engage in professional development, education, and research.
Shift: The position is open to candidates in the United States. The off‑shift rotation schedule may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, determined by clinical needs.
Responsibilities- Assess complex acute, critical and chronically ill patients for urgent and emergent conditions, evaluating physiologic instability.
- Perform therapeutic interventions to stabilize acute and critical health problems as outlined in the Scope of Practice Document.
- Analyze the indications, contraindications, risks and cost‑benefit of therapeutic interventions.
- Manage the plan of care through evaluation, modification and documentation according to patient response.
- Incorporate health promotion, protection and injury prevention measures into care.
- Facilitate patients’ transitions between and within health care settings.
- Serve as an educational resource to patients/families, nursing staff and the provider team; act as a consultant to multidisciplinary health care team members.
- Participate in scholarly activities, research and education, and maintain required competencies.
- Demonstrate commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues, reporting errors, and sharing lessons learned.
- At least 1 year of experience practicing as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
- Master’s Degree Nursing – Required.
- Master’s Degree Physician Assistant – Preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree Physician Assistant – Required.
- Licensure:
Registered Nurse or APA in Pennsylvania/NJ with required prescriptive authority and specialty certification, as outlined below.
- Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) – Required upon hire.
- Registered Nurse (New Jersey) – Required upon hire.
- Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (Pennsylvania) – Required upon hire.
- Advanced Practice Nurse (New Jersey) – Required upon hire.
- Prescriptive Authority (Pennsylvania) – Required within 3 months.
- Prescriptive Authority (New Jersey) – Required within 3 months.
- Specialty Certification matching scope of practice – Required upon hire.
- Certified Physician Assistant (Pennsylvania) – Required upon hire.
- Certified Physician Assistant (New Jersey) – Required upon hire.
- Certified Physician Assistant – National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants – Required upon hire.
- Work effectively in an inter‑professional team setting with multiple responsibilities.
- Use computer and electronic medical records efficiently.
- Navigate electronic health record systems and clinical communication tools.
- Apply clinical decision support tools and information literacy principles.
- Collect clinical data using quality improvement tools.
- Maintain confidentiality, security and privacy regulations regarding clinical information systems.
Salary range: $ – $ annually. This is a full‑time position. Parts‑time compensation will be adjusted accordingly. The position may be eligible for an incentive program.
