Summary of Position:
The Director, Medical Affairs is a leadership role in the Medical Affairs function that provides strategic and tactical medical and scientific expertise with multi-faceted responsibilities and high accountability. This role oversees Medical Affairs publications, scientific communications and the integration of medical affairs into enterprise activities. Publication duties include developing, planning and executing publication activities and leading an external publication team to align with cross-functional strategies.
Scientific Communications duties include providing scientific content for communications, training materials, educational programs, and sponsor ships to ensure scientific accuracy and alignment with Paratek Pharmaceuticals objectives. Medical Affairs integration duties include working with the Medical Affairs matrix team and cross-functional partners (Commercial, Marketing, Regulatory, Medical and Clinical Development) to provide expert scientific guidance and ensure alignment with corporate goals and regulatory compliance.
The position requires strong relationships with colleagues who are office- or field-based.
- Provide strategic direction for Medical Affairs Publications and Scientific Communications aligned with company strategy
- Develop, plan, and execute Publication Plan and timelines as approved by the Publication Committee
- Provide scientific expertise to support development, maintenance, and execution of training initiatives to meet business needs
- Provide scientific expertise regarding characteristics of Paratek products to support positioning in therapeutic areas
- Critically evaluate and interpret scientific literature and its potential impact on clinical practice and medical strategy
- Develop slide decks and other key scientific communications for externally facing functions
- Contribute to medical initiatives (virtual presentations, congress symposia, advisory boards, medical education/grant programs)
- Manage Paratek Medical Communications Vendors to ensure compliance with Policies and Procedures and Workflows; execute the Medical and Publication Plan within the allocated Medical Affairs Budget
- Manage budgets and resources to support medical affairs initiatives
- Establish a productive work environment and act as a trusted partner within the matrix organization

- Advanced Life Sciences degree required;
Masters or Doctorate strongly preferred (e.g., MD, Pharm
D, PhD) - 7+ years in pharmaceutical industry with progressive Medical Affairs experience
- Broad therapeutic expertise preferred and ability to interact with headquarter and field personnel
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical industry laws, regulations, and guidelines regarding medical information and scientific communication
- High degree of professionalism, integrity and collaboration
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team
- Strong leadership, team-building, negotiation, and execution capabilities
- Excellent networking and relationship-building skills with internal and external customers
- Able to work effectively with all levels of the organization across multiple functions
- Technology:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to learn new systems - Travel: 30% travel required
