** SP Energy Networks is responsible for the distribution of electricity to homes and businesses across Central & Southern Scotland, Cheshire, Merseyside, North Shropshire and North Wales. We keep the lights on for over 3.5 million customers and work around the clock to ensure a safe and reliable power supply.

We’re looking for two Land Officers to join our Land & Planning Team – one based in Bonnybridge and the other in Kilmarnock.
*** What You’ll Be Doing
*** As a Land Officer, you’ll play a vital role in securing the land rights and statutory consents needed for our electricity distribution network (33kV and below). Your work will directly support the delivery of infrastructure projects, customer connections, and ongoing maintenance activities.

Day to day, you will:
* Lead negotiations with landowners and agents to secure consents, considering farming practices, compensation, and operational requirements.
* Manage the full land rights process for capital projects, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with legal and regulatory obligations.
* Provide expert advice to project managers on land rights strategies and alternative solutions when challenges arise.
* Prepare and process legal documentation, liaising with internal and external legal teams to secure permanent rights.
* Conduct site visits to support construction teams and maintain access during works.
* Assist in preparing statutory notices and applications for wayleaves, and contribute to hearings where necessary.

Your role is critical in balancing the needs of the business with those of landowners, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently while maintaining strong relationships and safeguarding our network.
*** What You’ll Bring
*** We’re looking for someone with strong technical knowledge and excellent interpersonal skills.

You’ll need:
* In-depth understanding of relevant legislation, including the Electricity Act 1989, Town & Country Planning Act, Property Law, and agricultural practices.
* Practical experience in land rights processes and negotiations, ideally within a utilities or infrastructure environment.
* Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage complex and sometimes adversarial situations professionally.
* A proactive, solution-focused approach, capable of balancing engineering, legal, and financial considerations to achieve outcomes.
* Working knowledge of electricity distribution networks and their components is desirable.
* Confidence in making informed decisions and collaborating with stakeholders at all levels, from landowners to senior managers.
* A full UK driving licence is essential, as you’ll be required to travel to sites across the region.
