Paraeducator Teacher Residency

Teacher Residency Program Special Education

Killingly Public Schools is excited to invite applications for our Teacher Residency Program
. This program offers an alternate route to certification for non-certified staff who hold a bachelor's degree and are interested in becoming special education teachers.

• Work as a full-time para educator and co-teacher alongside an accomplished, TEAM-trained mentor teacher starting in the 26/27 school year
• Complete a full school year placement with the same teacher and students
• Build hands-on classroom experience while earning certification

• Coursework is completed:
  • During the first summer session in 2026
  • In the evenings throughout the fall 2026 and spring 2027 semesters
• Coursework format:
  • 80% online
  • 20% in person at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) or a regional location

• Hold a bachelor's degree
• Have experience working with students with disabilities
• Demonstrate a strong interest in becoming a special education teacher
• Commit to a four-year teaching commitment with Killingly Public Schools upon program completion and certification

• 50% of tuition covered by Killingly Public Schools
  • Approximate value: $11,000
• Potential for additional financial assistance through CCSU
• Employment as a full-time para educator beginning in the 2026–27 school year
• Ongoing mentor support from:
  • Killingly Public Schools staff
  • CCSU faculty
• Supportive pathway into a full-time teaching career
