General Purpose

Responsible for the management and supervision of all areas assigned by the Store Manager and for following company policies regarding customers, associates, and merchandising. The Assistant Manager leads the entire operation of the store in the absence of the Store Manager, ensuring consistent adherence to company standards and best practices.

Essential Functions General Operating Requirements
  • Lead all company best practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches.
  • Assist in analyzing store reports to evaluate controllable expenses and overall performance.
  • Communicate variances to the Store Manager.
  • Ensure proper scheduling of associates to meet business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all state, local and federal regulations.
  • Schedule and oversee all associate cleaning tasks throughout the store, including restrooms.
  • Accept special assignments directed by leadership.
  • Handle payroll administration, including daily punch edits, associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting as needed.
Organizational Development
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, and developing non-exempt associates.
  • Ensure compliance with Ross personnel policies and procedures.
  • Assist with associate relations issues by communicating incidents to the Store Manager or District Manager as needed.
Expense Control
  • Assist in managing and continuously monitoring actual expenditures to stay within budget.
  • Control payroll hours as the primary controllable expense and adjust to current business trends.
Maintaining a Safe & Secure Environment
  • Practice safety as the number one priority and model safe behaviors.
  • Ensure associates understand and execute emergency operating procedures.
  • Maintain adherence to company safety policies.
  • Assist in facilitating monthly safety meetings.
Customer Service
  • Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
  • Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
  • Execute customer service programs and merchandise presentation programs through associate training and supervision.
  • Supervise and coach retail associates in providing efficient and friendly service at registers, service desk, fitting rooms, and sales floor.
Personal And Store Brand
  • Represent and support the company brand at all times.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the company dress code.
  • Ensure the store is clean, neat, and easy to shop.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping with help of maintenance personnel and associates.
  • Schedule and oversee all associate cleaning tasks throughout the store, including restrooms.
Merchandise Processing and In-Store Marketing
  • Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up.
  • Ensure merchandise is presented and organized per company merchandising guidelines.
  • Manage merchandise processing to the sales floor within the expected company timeframe.
