Job Purpose
To provide non-professional direct resident care duties under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel, and to assist in maintaining a positive physical and psychosocial environment for the residents.
EssentialJob Duties and Responsibilities Personal Care, Nursing Care, and Food Service Functions
Assists residents with activities of daily living including:
- Bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Changing bed linens and positioning in and out of bed, chair, etc.
- Assisting with resident recreation programs
- Preparing residents for meals and snacks, assisting with eating when needed, and recording food intake
Reads and follows daily care plans; performs assigned restorative and rehabilitative procedures; reports changes in resident condition to nurse in charge; documents care provision on resident record/flow sheets as required and reports accidents and incidents; and provides nursing functions as directed by supervisor.
Safety, Sanitation and Infection ControlUnderstands and follows safety, sanitation, and infection control policy and procedures, including proper hand washing, proper wearing of masks and gloves, and promptly reports any violations to supervisor.
In-service and Continuing EducationAttend orientation and in-service as required by the state. Completes all required online education as deemed necessary by the state and the facility.
Resident Rights and RelationshipsUnderstands, complies with, and promotes all rules regarding residents’ rights. Promotes positive relationships with residents, visitors, and government regulators, presenting a professional appearance and attitude.
Other Job Functions Support FunctionAssist in admission, transfer, and discharge of residents.
Staff DevelopmentAttend and participate in training, educational activities, and staff meetings; assist with orientation and training of other staff.
Other DutiesOther duties as assigned.
Physical and Sensory RequirementsWorks in a climate-controlled and well-lighted environment. Works in an office and throughout the building daily. Has Category 1 risk of exposure to infectious diseases, receives training in handwashing practices and Universal Precautions, and has access to personal protective equipment if direct exposure is anticipated. Subject to interruptions, noise, and odors daily.
Required abilities and actions include:
- Walking, reaching, climbing, bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling.
- Distinguishing smells, tastes and temperatures.
- Communicating with residents and employees.
- Understanding and following training.
- Instructing staff in service education.
- Remaining calm under stress.
- Must be a Certified Nursing Aide in good standing with the State or must within four (4) months of employment have completed state-required training and a competency evaluation program.
- Must have ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions at a level necessary to accomplish the job.
- Must be able to relate positively and favorably to residents and families and to work cooperatively with other associates.
- Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.
- Must be capable of performing the Essential Job Functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
