Senior Radiology Assistant

This is a Band 3 Radiology Assistant Post with positions based at the Worcester site and the Alexandra site with rotation to Kidderminster Teatment Centre. There is also a requirement to support other sites countywide to support the service as required. This could include Princess of Wales Hospital, Bromsgrove. Malvern Community Hospital and Evesham Community Hospital.

This post will provide you with opportunity to support a wide range of disciplines within the Radiology department including MRI, CT, Ultrasound, ED, and also outpatient/inpatient imaging departments. For suitable candidates we actively encourage role extension with a career progression pathway through to Radiographer. This post involves inclusion in weekends, Bank Holidays and out of hours shifts. Enthusiasm, flexibility and the ability to work without direct supervision with a willingness to learn are essential.

Main

duties of the job

To work as an integral part of the Radiology team, providing a high standard of patient centred care, meeting the needs of our patients, consultants and Radiology colleagues. You will need to have good communication skills, liaising with wider healthcare professionals and be focused to deliver the highest standards of patient care. Working across the various modalities within Radiology will require a flexible approach ensuring that you are putting patients first in the delivery of care.

You will be required to cannulate patients for their examinations, and support with aseptic technique for a number of Radiographic examinations.

Job responsibilities

Communication

Provide and receive routine information requiring discretion, sensitivity or persuasive skills:

Exchange factual information with patients and other healthcare professionals using persuasion, reassurance, discretion, sensitivity and empathy as required.

Assessing communication needs of patients, anticipate where communication difficulties might make completion of the examination difficult and overcoming barriers. Implement alternative methods of communication if required.

Provide any required after care. Communicate any delays in a timely manner. Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, carers, visitors and members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Occasionally receive and communicate sensitive information from/to patients.

Be able to relate to all manner of patients with understanding and care, respecting their privacy and dignity providing a caring and confidential service.

Promote the best available departmental environment for all.

Clinical

Develop and maintain a good knowledge of Radiology exams/procedures and associated requirements i.e preparation, during the exam and any required aftercare to ensure a safe delivery of practice/service.

Contribute to the smooth running of the various departments on a daily basis as required.

Undertake basic observation for patients as required i.e Oxygen Saturations and Blood Pressure.

Insert Cannulas for patients having imaging contrast.

Support with aseptic technique during Radiographic examinations

Develop own competence to deliver effective care and treatments through improving clinical/technical knowledge / skill, and expertise.

Liaising with other healthcare professional i.e wards/porters, to arrange the transportation of patients to and from the department in a timely manner.

Assist in patient care: getting patients changed, explaining the undressing/dressing…
