Position OverviewThe Vice President of Design is a key executive leadership role responsible for defining and executing the company's global design vision and strategy. This position reports directly to the Chief Product Officer/CEO and serves on the executive leadership team. The VP of Design will build and lead a world-class design organization, drive design innovation, and ensure design excellence becomes a key competitive advantage for the company.
StrategicLeadership & Vision
- Define and champion the company's global design strategy, vision, and principles
- Drive design innovation that creates measurable business impact and market differentiation
- Participate in executive-level strategic planning and decision-making
- Lead organizational design and scaling of the design function
- Own design budget and resource allocation ($5M+ annually)
- Develop and execute design's contribution to the company's long-term strategic roadmap
- Build, mentor, and scale high-performing design teams across multiple disciplines
- Create organizational structures that enable efficient design operations at scale
- Establish career development frameworks and growth paths for design talent
- Drive design culture and practices across the organization
- Develop and maintain relationships with key external partners, vendors, and design community
- Lead acquisition and retention strategies for top design talent
- Own design KPIs and metrics that demonstrate business value and ROI
- Drive design maturity across the organization through processes, tools, and standards
- Establish governance frameworks for design systems and brand consistency
- Partner with Finance to develop and manage design organization budget
- Present to board members and key stakeholders on design strategy and impact
- Partner with C-suite executives to align design strategy with company objectives
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Sales leadership
- Drive design thinking and user-centered approaches across all departments
- Lead design's involvement in major corporate initiatives and transformations
- 15+ years of professional design experience
- 7+ years in senior design leadership roles
- Track record of scaling design organizations (25+ people)
- Experience managing multiple design disciplines (Product, Brand, Research)
