Consultant Psychiatrist - Avocet Ward Adult Inpatients

Consultant Psychiatrist – Male Adult Inpatients, based at St Mary's Hospital in Kettering, Northamptonshire. The Avocet ward is a 16‑bed male‑only inpatient ward that requires assessment and management of a wide range of psychiatric presentations. RC/AC status and Section 12 are required for this role. We are offering a £40,000 welcome bonus to the successful candidate, paid over the first two years in post.
Mainduties
The ward takes direct new admissions of a range of presentations. You will be supported by junior doctors (FY2 and GPVTS) and it is expected you will have regular dialogue with the two consultant psychiatrists on other two adult inpatient wards on site. Cross cover will be provided by inpatient and outpatient consultants on a rotational basis.

Person Specification Experience and Knowledge- Full GMC Registration
- On Specialist Register/CCT in General Adult Psychiatry or eligible for inclusion within six months
- Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act
- Additional postgraduate qualifications
- Publication of original research
- Management training
- In good standing with the GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice
- Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership and collaborative working to deliver improvement
- Ability to work independently as well as part of an MDT
- Form good working relationships with the peer group
- Willingness to undertake training and CPD appropriate to this post
- Ability to work under pressure
- Willingness to participate in in‑house training
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels
- Present complex information to a variety of audiences, including courts and tribunals
- Motivate and develop junior medical staff and other MDT members
- Balance individual requirements against those of the Directorate and Trust as a whole
- Understand the political and financial framework within which the services operate
- Meet duties under the MHA and MCA
- Take initiative and work in a self‑directed manner
- Plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching relevant to this post
- Experience in clinical research and/or service evaluation
