Join the Superior Court team and play a key role in supporting the work of justice! As a Judicial Assistant, you’ll manage the daily operations of a judge’s chambers and serve as the primary point of contact for attorneys, court staff, and the public.
You’ll coordinate hearings, maintain the judge’s calendar, and ensure cases move smoothly through the court process. This position prepares and distributes orders and correspondence, reviews filings for accuracy, and keeps detailed records in the court’s case management system. You’ll also handle administrative tasks such as scheduling, timesheets, travel requests, and expense reporting.

PLEASE NOTEThis position is assigned to the court's partially‑exempt service; incumbents serve at‑will to the hiring authority. Upon the retirement or resignation of the Superior Court Judge, this position will end unless the incumbent is interviewed and selected by a new judge.
The Work EnvironmentThe Ketchikan Court is located on Main Street in Alaska's first city and the Salmon Capital of the World. As a Chambers Judicial Assistant I, you will be an integral part of the court by helping to fulfill the mission of the Alaska Court System.
The Work HoursFull‑time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one‑hour lunch break.

Minimum Qualifications- Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate.
- Two years of progressively responsible, fully qualified work experience as an administrative assistant.
- Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.
- Twelve months of work experience performing general clerical work that demonstrates work skills equal to those of a Court Case Manager 1 with the Alaska Court System will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.
Work experience as a legal administrative assistant is preferred. Positions in this job classification are in the partially‑exempt service and serve at-will to the appointing authority.
