Our job offers a chance to work in state‑size facilities dedicated to specialized psychiatric care. The position focuses on skilled mechanical work in vehicle repairs and maintenance.
EssentialJob Functions
Perform semi‑skilled mechanical work in vehicle repairs, including exchanging and rebuilding engines, carburetors, transmissions, air and hydraulic brakes, and related assemblies. Provide diagnostic electrical and cooling system repairs, install or repair accessories, and perform preventive maintenance on automotive and related gasoline and diesel engines. Work on stationary and motorized equipment and vehicles. Maintain accurate records and follow safety guidelines. Act independently or assist under close supervision, and may be asked to support agency disaster response/continuity operations.
- General automotive/mechanical repairs: new installations on vehicles, tire service, state inspections, preventive maintenance.
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedules for the fleet.
- Follow guidelines for reporting and making repairs to ensure safety.
- Comply with safety guidelines.
- Maintain current valid license(s) and certifications required for the role.
- Complete required documentation.
- Communicate effectively with other departments.
- Assume new and challenging assignments willingly.
- Handle multiple responsibilities flexibly.
- Act professional and dependable at all times.
Skills and Abilities
Proficient in diesel and gasoline engine powered equipment. Knowledge of preventive maintenance schedules.
Registrations, Licensure and CertificationsPosition requires a valid Driver’s License and an eligible driving record per HHSC Fleet Management policy. Out‑of‑state license holders must provide an original certified driving record or obtain a Texas Driver’s License.
Initial Screening Criteria- Graduation from an accredited high school or a GED.
- Experience in automotive maintenance.
- Verifiable mechanic experience.
Applicants must pass fingerprint criminal background checks, pre-employment drug screening, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, LEIE). Males aged 18‑25 must register with Selective Service. All applicants must be at least 18 years old;
Waco Center for Youth applicants must be 21. Flexibility in work hours, overtime, and extended hours may be required.
Compliance with HHSC immunization policy and state hospital operating procedures is required. Employees must be vaccinated according to their level of contact with individuals.
