Food Service Worker II – Kerrville State Hospital
Location: 721 Thompson Dr, Kerrville, TX
Job OverviewAs a Food Service Worker II with Texas Health and Human Services, you will prepare, portion, distribute, and serve food in a psychiatric hospital setting. The role requires compliance with federal, state, and HACCP guidelines, sanitation of equipment, and collaboration with kitchen staff. You will work daily shifts and may be required to use alternate shift patterns for disaster response and COOP activation.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare, portion, and distribute food for regular and therapeutic diets.
- Sanitize kitchen equipment, dishes, utensils, pots, and pans.
- Train or assist in training new food service workers.
- Follow HACCP, food safety, and hospital sanitation procedures.
- Receive deliveries and manage inventory of food supplies.
- Maintain accurate records and complete required paperwork.
- Participate in disaster response or COOP activation as needed.
- Minimum of 12 months of food service experience.
- Must obtain a food safety certification (Serv Safe, Learn to Serve, or Food Protection Manager) within the first six months.
- Valid Texas driver’s license required if driving is part of the role.
- Proficiency in English and basic numeracy for cooking/preparation calculations.
- Ability to work harmoniously with co‑workers and patients.
- Knowledge of food preparation methods, storage standards, and sanitation regulations.
- Experience operating and sanitizing food service equipment.
- Background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and required registry checks.
- Compliance with HHSC immunization policy; vaccine‑recommended protections for hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, and influenza.
- Optional telework not available for this position.
- Desirable: familiarity with disaster response protocols.
- Salary Group: TEXAS‑A‑09 – $2,639.75 to $3,404.91 per month.
- Full‑time, non‑exempt, monthly pay.
