The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)/Medical Technologist (MT)/Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS)/Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is responsible for performing highly complex testing for use in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of disease. This involves a thorough knowledge of laboratory practice in order to correlate, interpret, evaluate and ensure the validity of patient results. The MLS/MT/CLS/MLT assists in the maintenance and operation of the laboratory by assuring compliance with all laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory agency standards.
RequiredEducation
BS or AS degree in related field or documented military laboratory training. Must possess education credentials necessary to satisfy CLIA ’88 personnel testing qualifications for a high complexity laboratory.
Preferred EducationCompletion of a NAACLS-accredited MT/MLS/ MLT program or Board of Registry equivalent.
Required SkillsTraining and/or experience in all areas of the clinical laboratory and laboratory information systems.
Preferred Licensure/Registration/CertificationNational certification/registration as MLS/CLS/MT/MLT via ASCP, AMT, NCA or HEW.
Preferred ExperienceMinimum of one year’s experience
