Job Summary
Position: Psychiatric Nursing Assistant IV (PNA IV) – HHSC, Kerrville State Hospital, Kerrville, TX
Agency: Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC)
Salary: $4,094.50 – $5,094.16 per month,
Shift: Evening (Days, Nights, Weekends possible)
Employment Type: Full‑time, Regular, Non‑exempt
- Coordinate assignments and duties for PNAs, including assistance with activities of daily living, hygiene, and dining to promote independence.
- Initiate and support implementation of individualized recovery plans and offer therapeutic, person‑centered communication with patients.
- Document patient conditions and behaviors in the electronic record, and participate in shift reporting and recovery team meetings.
- Provide instructional support to other PNAs on medication administration monitoring and vital‑sign procedures.
- Promote safety through environmental awareness, crisis intervention using TIPS, and emergency procedures including CPR and AED.
- Co‑facilitate classes and programs, and encourage patient participation.
- Serve as preceptor for new and temporary staff and provide ongoing training.
- Respond to disaster response or continuity of operations activation when required, possibly requiring alternate shifts or locations.
- Four (4) years of direct‑care work experience, with a minimum of three (3) years in psychiatric care.
- Preferred:
Three (3) years of supervisory experience. - Knowledge of CAPPS, CARE, Microsoft Word & Excel and patient aggression reduction interventions.
- Proficient in applying treatment, therapy and recovery programs and effective interpersonal leadership skills.
- Ability to use computer and office equipment and prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.
- CPR certification required or obtainable within 60 days of hire.
- Valid Texas driver license required if patient transport required; otherwise, a driver license may be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Will be required to pass background check, drug screening, registry checks and immunization policy.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, or 21 years for Waco Center for Youth positions. Flexibility for overtime, extended hours, and alternate shift patterns may be required. The position may be eligible for additional pay on evenings, nights, weekends, and maximum‑security locations.
