U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Physician (Geriatrics & Extended Care) to provide high quality patient-centered care to Veterans in Kerrville, TX.

Base pay range: $/yr - $/yr

Summary

The South Texas Veterans Health Care System is currently seeking a Physician (Geriatrics & Extended Care) to provide high quality patient centered care to Veterans residing in the Community Living Centers in Kerrville, TX.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic

Requirements
  • United States Citizenship:
    Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • Education:

    Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
  • The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
  • Licensure and Registration:
    Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
  • Residency Training:
    Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
  • Approved residencies: ACGME, AOA, or other residencies with applicable experience as described
  • Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs)
  • PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis
  • PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged
  • Scope of practice for PRPs may be limited
  • Additional residency and training notes for specific programs
  • Physical Requirements:

    Various physical requirements as listed in the announcement
  • English Language Proficiency:
    Proficient in spoken and written English as required by VA regulations
  • Preferred Experience:

    Board Certified in Internal/Family or Geriatric Medicine; experience with managing residents in community living centers or long-term nursing home care; experience with complex geriatric problems in a multidisciplinary team; experience in hospice care management
Duties
  • The Geriatric & Extended Care Physician collaborates with Medical Directors and Program Managers to ensure quality of care, program productivity, and implementation of programs aligned with the STVHCS mission
  • Participates in staff meetings and communicates administrative medical issues to the service medical director
  • Contributes to performance improvement initiatives and medical care standards
  • Arranges physician coverage and communicates plans when taking leave
  • Provides back-up support for other GEC providers
  • Participates in chart reviews, peer review, and other process improvements
  • Completes required training and ensures compliance with leave and attendance policies
  • Ensures timely documentation of encounters in CPRS and cosigns students/fellows notes as needed
  • Oversees non-physician team members and participates in initiative execution to meet performance measures
  • Supports development of patient-centered care and care coordination initiatives
  • Provides supervision to non-physician providers within scope of practice
  • Maintains safety and environmental standards for assigned services
