Overview
This position is located at the Kernersville Health Care Center (HCC) in Kernersville - NC. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education - self-management - and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
QualificationsNote: Basic Requirements include English language proficiency and licensure/education requirements as specified below.
- English Language Proficiency
- In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f) - no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE at the time the program was completed
- OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program
- Upon achievement of a State license - appointment on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program

- OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing - possession of a current - full - active - and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation
- Credit for foreign nursing education higher than associate degree requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized evaluation accepted by VA
- Current - full - active - and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. state/territory/Commonwealth or the District of Columbia
- Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: candidates who meet basic education requirements but do not possess licensure may be appointed at the entry step as a GNT on a 120-day temporary appointment (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case basis). Grandfathering provision included for current VA employees in 0610 series

- Preferred Experience:
2-3 years experience in a GI Procedures;
Med-Surg or ICU experience - Physical Requirements:
visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity; ability to walk/stand/sit for extended periods; ability to transfer patients and objects; may require driving - Protective equipment and exposure considerations as described (infection control, isolation, agitation risk)
- Annual health requirements including TB screening; driving or travel to off-site locations may be required
- General Description of Assigned Duties:
Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care - Assumes responsibility for coordination of care focused on patient education - self-management - and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care
- Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines
- Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team
- Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in quality improvement and customer service programs
- The Endoscopy RN provides peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement
- Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals
- Shares educational findings - experiences - and ideas with peers
- Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care
- Participates in activities to sustain an evidence-based-practice culture
- The Endoscopy RN may function in several roles including pre-procedure assessments, post-procedure recovery, and assisting physicians during procedures
- Maintains proficiency in maintenance, cleaning, and preparation of endoscopy equipment
- Recognizes changes in patient care situations and initiates appropriate emergency responses
- Adapts to changes in the daily schedule
- Applies clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision making, and evaluating outcomes; may be assigned call in accordance with facility policies
- Improves veteran/patient driven care by resolving experience issues related to coordination of care, timeliness, or process concerns
- Considers alternative courses of action; respects opinions and contributions of others
- Encourages individual growth and development; leads teams and participates in care planning
- Leads implementation of high reliability principles and I CARE values to increase consistency of care and improve patient outcomes
