Overview
This position is located at the Kernersville Health Care Center (HCC) in Kernersville, NC. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
Qualifications- English Language Proficiency
- In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f) - no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: ACEN or CCNE
- OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program
- Upon achievement of a State license - the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program

- OR Foreign-educated graduates - possession of current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing
- Credit for foreign nursing education higher than an associate degree requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized evaluation service
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
- Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: 120-day temporary appointment while pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case basis). Grandfathering provision applies for current VA employees in the 0610 series as of 1/29/2024

- Preferred Experience:
2-3 years of GI Procedures experience;
Med-Surg or ICU experience - Physical requirements:
visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity; ability to walk/stand/sit for long periods; transferring patients and objects; protective equipment as needed - Travel/drive to off-site locations may be required
- General Description:
Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care - Coordinate care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction across the continuum of care
- Administer medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines
- Influence care outcomes by collaborating with the interdisciplinary team
- Participate in unit/program quality improvement and customer service initiatives
- The Endoscopy RN provides peers with informal constructive feedback and fosters a safe, professional development-focused environment
- Share educational findings and ideas with peers; question clinical practices to provide evidence-based care
- Participate in activities to sustain an evidence-based-practice culture
- May function in roles including pre-procedure assessments, post-procedure recovery, and assisting physicians; maintain proficiency with endoscopy equipment
- Recognize changes in patient care situations and initiate appropriate emergency actions; adapt to daily schedule changes
- Lead planning, decision making, and evaluating outcomes; may be required to respond to calls per facility policy
- Improve veteran/patient-driven care by resolving coordination, timeliness, or process issues and care environment concerns
- Respect the opinions and contributions of others; encourage growth and development; lead teams and collaborate in care planning
- Implement high reliability principles and I CARE values to increase consistency of care and patient outcomes
