Structural Bridge Engineer – Subject Matter Expert

We are seeking an experienced Structural Bridge Engineer – Subject Matter Expert to support and grow our Transportation Practice in our Kernersville, North Carolina office.

Annual Compensation: $128,000 – 185,000 based on experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

Essential Functions
  • Perform engineering design tasks for bridge projects from preliminary to final design.
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages.
  • Establish working relationships with client technical staff and project managers, especially in DOT and local governments.
  • Provide engineering design services for traditional design‑bid‑build and design‑build bridge projects.
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing final design plans.
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers.
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, and scheduling performance.
  • Identify schedule and cost variances and develop and implement recommendations for corrective action.
  • Complete tasks within schedule and with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Actively participate and serve in leadership positions in transportation related organizations such as ASHE, ASCE, NCSEA, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Essential Credentials
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis is required; an M.S. degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
  • P.E. license required.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of bridge/culvert design experience.
  • DOT bridge design experience and thorough understanding of DOT guidelines, procedures, and plan preparation (ODOT, NCDOT or Maine

    DOT preferred).
  • Relationships with DOT, municipalities preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and Manual for Bridge Evaluation.
