Package Testing Technician – Kentwood, MI

The Technician is responsible for performing the testing activities in the Durability test lab and coordinating testing activities to meet the service requirements of the laboratory for Package Testing.

Schedule:

40 hours/week with variable schedule to maximize equipment utilization.

• Prepare test specimens, perform testing, and report test results. Tests include physical, mechanical, visual inspections on pallets, boxes, etc.
• Read, understand, and follow lab SOPs or standard test methods and/or client test methods as required by the customers.
• Co‑ordinate work with other department team members to complete testing, reporting and report issues in a timely manner.
• Communicate project status details to Department Manager and timely communicate any delays with the project stakeholders.
• Provide support in test selection, review lab test results and explain test results.
• Assist in keeping inventory of laboratory and equipment supplies necessary for daily functioning and compile a list of supplies to order in a timely manner.
• Organize tested and remnant samples from laboratory for sample archiving by logistics department.
• Demonstrate test procedures to auditors, clients and support account managers during client visits.
• Assist in ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation and calibration activities of the laboratory and perform daily, weekly, and monthly QA/QC checks on equipment.
• Maintain general cleanliness and upkeep of the laboratory.

• High school diploma or GED and 3+ years of directly related experience OR Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or directly related technical field.
• Microsoft Office proficiency, including Word, Excel, Outlook. Fluency in using computers is required.
• Ability to utilize basic shop equipment and various hand tools.
• Ability to review, understand, and convey technical information effectively.
• Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions.
• Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, multi-tasking environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Strong communication skills, in both verbal and written formats.

• Experience with ISTA test standards.
• Experience in ISO 17025 accredited laboratory with focus on Package Testing.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds is a plus.
• Ability to drive a Hilo.
