Package Testing Technician – Kentwood, MI

What We’re Looking ForThe Technician is responsible for performing the testing activities in the Durability test lab and coordinating testing activities to meet the service requirements of the laboratory for Package Testing.
Shift/
Schedule:
40 hours/week with variable schedule to maximize equipment utilization.

- Prepare test specimens, perform testing, and report test results. Tests include physical, mechanical, visual inspections on pallets, boxes, etc.
- Read, understand, and follow lab SOPs or standard test methods and/or client test methods as required by the customers.
- Co‑ordinate work with other department team members to complete testing, reporting and report issues in a timely manner.
- Communicate project status details to Department Manager and timely communicate any delays with the project stakeholders.
- Provide support in test selection, review lab test results and explain test results.
- Assist in keeping inventory of laboratory and equipment supplies necessary for daily functioning and compile a list of supplies to order in a timely manner.
- Organize tested and remnant samples from laboratory for sample archiving by logistics department.
- Demonstrate test procedures to auditors, clients and support account managers during client visits.
- Assist in ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation and calibration activities of the laboratory and perform daily, weekly, and monthly QA/QC checks on equipment.
- Maintain general cleanliness and upkeep of the laboratory.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications- High school diploma or GED and 3+ years of directly related experience OR Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or directly related technical field.
- Microsoft Office proficiency, including Word, Excel, Outlook. Fluency in using computers is required.
- Ability to utilize basic shop equipment and various hand tools.
- Ability to review, understand, and convey technical information effectively.
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions.
- Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, multi-tasking environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Strong communication skills, in both verbal and written formats.
- Experience with ISTA test standards.
- Experience in ISO 17025 accredited laboratory with focus on Package Testing.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds is a plus.
- Ability to drive a Hilo.
