TITLE: Bus Driver

REPORTS TO: Director/Asst. Director of Transportation

JOB GOAL: To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district’s curriculum and extracurricular activities.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serve as a bus driver
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by his/her immediate supervisor.
• Obey all traffic laws.
• Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
• Maintain discipline of students on bus according to the method prescribed by the driver manual.
• Report undisciplined students to the proper authority.
• Keep assigned bus clean.
• Keep to assigned route and schedule.
• Check bus before each operation as required by pre-trip inspection.
• Maintain proper level of fuel and fluids in bus.
• Notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
• Discharge students only as described in the Driver Manual.
• Exercise responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
• Transport only authorized students.
• Report all accidents and complete required reports.
• Enforce regulations specified in the School Bus Drivers Manual as approved by the State and Local Boards of Education.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Valid operator’s License (CDL required).
• S endorsement.
• Must pass all requirements of the State and Russell Independent Board of Education.
• Positive character references.
• Ability to work with other drivers and assist in their training.
• Kentucky certified school bus driver trainer or willing to complete the course within one year.
• Other alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
• Satisfactory completion of State mandated health examination.

EVALUATION:

• Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director of Transportation.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Salary commensurate with the Russell Independent Schools Classified Salary Schedule.
