We’re building the next generation of public-facing APIs at 1
Password, and we’re looking for a Staff Developer to help lead that effort. This is a critical role at the intersection of platform architecture, developer experience, and security, with a direct impact on our largest technical initiative for 2026.
The team is evolving from delivering individual APIs into owning a shared, reusable API platform that teams across 1
Password will build upon. This platform defines how we safely expose core product capabilities through stable, well-designed APIs—both externally and internally—and how we evolve those interfaces without breaking trust or existing workflows as the product grows.
As a Staff Developer on this team, you will act as the technical DRI for the public API platform
. You’ll work closely with architecture leadership and product teams to balance near-term delivery with long-term platform integrity, establishing contracts, standards, and guardrails that must remain rock-solid as adoption scales.
This is a remote opportunity within the US and Canada.
What we're looking for:
8+ years of software engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of complex backend or platform systems
Proficiency in Go
Deep experience designing, building, and operating public-facing APIs at scale
Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, and identity concepts (OAuth, OIDC, scoped access, policy enforcement)
Proven ability to define and evolve long-lived API contracts without introducing breaking changes
Track record of setting technical direction, influencing across teams, and driving alignment in ambiguous problem spaces
Excellent judgment around tradeoffs between speed, safety, and long-term maintainability
Bonus if you have:
Experience building API platforms or shared infrastructure used by multiple teams
Familiarity with external request validation, API gateways, or policy enforcement layers
Experience working on security- or identity-adjacent systems
What you can expect:
Act as the technical DRI for the public API platform.
Partner closely with architecture and product leadership to define long-term platform direction
Design and implement shared API capabilities such as OAuth client creation, authorization enforcement, and request validation
Ensure APIs are secure, stable, and resilient as adoption grows
Establish standards and best practices for internal teams building public-facing APIs
Write production code and solve complex technical problems both directly and through others
Mentor and influence senior developers while raising the bar for platform quality across the organization
USA-based roles only:
The annual base salary for this role is between $192,000 USD and $278,000 USD, plus immediate participation in 1
