The division of Industrial Compliance and its associated boards ensure Ohioans are safe in public buildings such as businesses, educational institutions, and municipal buildings. This includes drafting and applying the Ohio Building Code; conducting appeal hearings; issuing variances to code requirements; licensing commercial contractors; inspecting boilers, elevators, and other equipment; and regulating ski tramways. The division has responsibility for portions of the Manufactured Homes Program, and licenses installers and park operators.
The division also oversees Ohio’s minimum wage, prevailing wage, and minor labor law provisions.
This position will cover, but is not limited to Franklin County. Applicants must live in Franklin or an adjacent county to be considered.
Responsibilities- Accompanied by a certified boiler inspector, perform field inspections of power & process boilers, low‑pressure steam boilers, hot water supply boilers, exterior parts of boilers (e.g., fittings, appurtenances, safety appliances) and interior parts of boilers. Check boiler apparatus, design, safety of construction, evidence of corrosion & proper temperature & pressure levels.
- Review approved plans & specifications of boiler construction & installation according to standards of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Code, Revised Code & all applicable laws, rules & guidelines.
- Monitor & witness boiler repairs & tests, verify certification of boiler repair personnel & assist with field investigations of boiler accidents or explosions (e.g., assist with interviews of witnesses of accident & recommend corrective action) as non‑certified inspector.
- Consult with, answer inquiries from & provide information to building owners, institution officials & general public on boiler‑related matters; recommend corrective measures to alleviate existing boiler problems; prepare variety of reports.
- Graduate engineer, registered by the State of Ohio as a professional engineer; 1 yr. experience in design, construction, operation or inspection of high‑pressure boilers & pressure vessels; valid driver's license.
- Associate degree in mechanical technology; 2 yrs. experience in design, construction, operation or inspection of high‑pressure boilers & pressure vessels; valid driver's license.
- High school education or equivalent; 3 yrs. experience in one of the following: high‑pressure boilers & pressure vessels construction or repairs, or in charge of high‑pressure boilers & pressure vessels operation, or in inspection of high‑pressure boilers & pressure vessels; valid driver's license.
- Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Must successfully pass examination for certificate of competency to inspect boilers within 360 days from date of hire. Failure to successfully pass certificate of competency examination to inspect boilers within 360‑day probationary period shall automatically result in removal. Employees who successfully pass certificate of competency examination to inspect boilers within 360‑day probationary period shall automatically be reassigned to Boiler Inspector, 24121.
