Safeguards & Security Specialist I - (403)
Under close supervision, performs entry-level professional work supporting the Safeguards and Security (S&S) programs for the DUF6 Conversion Project. Focuses on learning program requirements, executing assigned tasks, supporting compliance activities, and assisting senior staff with the implementation of established safeguards and security processes. Work is primarily task-oriented and performed using established procedures, guidance, and direct oversight. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities of support in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:
Functional:- Provides day-to-day administrative and technical support for Safeguards and Security programs.
- Assists with preparation of reports, correspondence, and regulatory documentation required for DOE and external agencies.
- Supports development and maintenance of procedures, plans, and implementing documents under direction of senior staff.
- Assists with inspections, assessments, performance tests, and site walkthroughs to identify potential vulnerabilities and compliance gaps.
- Supports development and coordination of S&S awareness and training activities.
- Performs document reviews and assists with regulatory and procedural change evaluations.
- Supports risk and threat assessment activities through data gathering and research.
- Assists with investigations into incidents of security concern and prepares supporting documentation.
- Supports management of access control, key control, personnel security, OPSEC, and information security processes.
- Supports Technical Information Officer and Controlled/Export Controlled Information reviews.
- Maintains records, tracking systems, and program documentation.
- Acts as backup support to the Facility Security Officer when assigned.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Security Management or related subject, or equivalent experience
- 1-3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
