Overview

This is a closed advertisement for a Correctional Officer in the Kentucky Department of Corrections. The position was classified as Pay Grade 10 with an annual salary of $39,127.68. Locality, shift, weekend, and holiday premiums are $5.23, $2.13, $2.13, and $2.13 per hour, respectively.

• Maintain control of the institution to provide safety and security for inmates, staff, and the general public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Supervise inmate activities in housing units, dining areas, recreation, and work areas.
• Attend to the medical, visitation, personal property, and recreational needs of the inmates.
• Inspect and patrol the grounds for contraband, unauthorized personnel, and other security risks.
• Complete required reports and daily logs.
• Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.

• Ability to work under pressure.

• High school graduate.
• Must be at least twenty years of age.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must successfully complete the Department of Juvenile Justice Training Academy within six months of employment (for the Department of Juvenile Justice).
• Maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment.

Working conditions are hazardous due to operating in a state correctional facility with convicted felons or in a juvenile detention facility. Probationary period is six months.
