MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or
Six (6) months of experience as an Environmental Specialist I or higher with the State of Florida; or
One (1) year of experience in environmental protection, regulation, or health; one of the physical or natural sciences; agriculture; or engineering.

Requires possession of a valid Class E Driver License.

JOB

DUTIES

Determines proper monitoring programs and performs in situ measurement of physical parameters and collection of water and tissue samples for laboratory bacteriological and chemical analysis; requires operation of state vehicles. Uses technical field equipment and outboard motorboats.

Serves as professional specialist in conducting computer modeling of environmental water quality parameters for shallow inshore areas. Responsible for collection of pollution source information and hydrographic and meteorology data for incorporation into water classification and management plans. Prepares technical reports including charts, graphs, statistical analyses and interpretation for supervisory review.

Conducts shoreline surveys to evaluate actual and potential impact of point and nonpoint pollution sources for use in conjunction with hydrographical, meteorological and bacteriological data to develop management plans for existing shellfish areas and unclassified estuaries district wide. Establishes water sampling stations based on these surveys. Evaluates, installs and maintains new and innovative water quality monitoring technologies and instrumentation.

Maintains district office, technical field instruments, boat equipment and vehicles. Files administrative reports and requisitions supplies.

Attends meetings and reviews documents regarding water quality and shellfish.
