This position is responsible for experimental work and product processes for formulation development, optimization, and scale up.
The position will collaborate with other functions for troubleshooting and improvement of commercial products. This position will report to the Principal Research Scientist in the R&D environment, and support innovation and exploration beyond existing flavor business. The position will occasionally backup pilot spray drying. In addition to scientific experiences, this position requires a person who is dedicated to maintaining a clean and organized workspace and who excels at documentation and recordkeeping.
- Able to operate laboratories and pilot machinery (emulsifying, mixing, spray drying, etc.)
- Able to operate product development and ERP-type software systems
- Operate and maintain basic laboratory equipment (viscosity, particle size, glass transition, etc.)
- Responsible for scaling-up and approving new formulas prior to sale, reviewing approval documentation and entering formulas into ERP systems
- Responsible for resourcing new materials, evaluating them, and entering them in the systems
- Capable of adequately recording laboratory or pilot run data and sharing with interested parties in a clear and efficient manner
- Maintains and records all laboratory and pilot plant maintenance within company systems (FMX)
- Supports commitment to Food Safety and Quality Policy, including the site’s Food Safety Culture
- Follows food safety and food defense procedures as instructed and required
- Strong laboratory, formulation and analytical skills
- Knowledge of emulsion, liquid and powder formulation science
- Knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Solid record keeping, data interpretation and presentation skills
- Background in formulation and ERP computer systems
- Good communication skills, both written and oral
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, degree in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, Materials Science, or a related field 1-5 years of experience in ingredient and product development, preferably in flavor ingredients or food-related products
