Professional Staff Nurse, NICU job at UPMC Hamot. Canada. Join Our NICU Team as a Registered Nurse – Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit!

Make a meaningful impact as a NICU nurse, delivering expert, compassionate care to premature and critically ill newborns in a fast‑paced, highly specialized environment. You’ll monitor vital signs, manage ventilators and IVs, support family bonding, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best outcomes. Our NICU nurses educate and comfort families and uphold the highest standards of safety and developmental care.

Ideal candidates are calm under pressure, detail‑oriented, and committed to delivering exceptional care aligned with UPMC’s values.

This position is part‑time, rotating day and night shifts.
One year of nursing experience or 18 months of PCT experience in this unit is required.
One year of NICU/Post‑partum experience highly preferred.

Purpose:

The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse who plays a key role in delivering high‑quality patient care. They are responsible for setting care standards and are accountable for nursing practices. Their duties include managing care for patients and families using independent judgment, effective communication, and teamwork. The role involves leadership, collaboration, supervision, and building strong relationships with physicians, healthcare.

Responsibilities:
  • Participates in unit‑specific quality improvement initiatives and identifies opportunities for enhancement.
  • Takes personal responsibility for improving patient satisfaction and care quality.
  • Uses research and evidence‑based practice to support clinical improvements and influence care plans.
  • Applies the nursing process within a relationship‑based care model to create a healing environment.
  • Develops daily patient goals and holistic care plans in partnership with patients.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking in identifying clinical and psychosocial patient needs.
  • Communicates effectively with care teams and documents comprehensively to support continuity of care.
  • Aligns care practices with professional standards and organizational goals for safety and quality.
  • Builds compassionate, healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Maintains productive internal and external relationships through accountability and motivation.
