Summary

Sets up CNC lathes and/or mills, performing all machining operations. Subject to short lead times and close tolerances on a continuous basis. Will be able to work to exacting tolerances, determine speeds and feeds, and sharpen own tools. Must be able to visualize finished product, recognize and report corrections in blueprint errors. Responsibilities
  • Participate in all plant safety initiatives and abide by corporate and local policies.
  • Report potentially unsafe conditions; use equipment and materials properly.
  • Actively engage in lean manufacturing principles and techniques.
  • Maintain housekeeping and general organization of work area, including daily maintenance of machinery.
  • Read blueprint or job order for product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances and tooling instructions—fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut—and determine sequence of operations.
  • Properly report direct and indirect labor in Shop Trak.
  • Operate CNC lathes, mills and other production equipment as required with moderate supervision.
  • Work from drawings or routers.
  • Study drawings, layout sequence of operations, and perform set‑up.
  • Adjust machine and acquire tools, fixtures, etc. as required for job.
  • Keep all tooling in proper working condition and work cell clean and neat.
  • Select proper chuck and fixture for securing the workpiece to machine.
  • Perform close‑tolerance machining operations such as forming, boring, turning, facing, drilling, tapping, honing, etc.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment when required, including fluid checks and replenishment.
  • Perform minor program edits as required.
  • Perform work assigned of equal or lower classification in other areas of the shop on a temporary basis as required.
  • Submit final inspection reports and documentation as required.
  • Be proficient in the use of all types of gauges, micrometers, etc., and handle hand tools for machinists.
  • Strive to continuously build knowledge and skills; share expertise with others.
