This is a highly responsible position in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. The employee is expected to perform all duties to the best of their ability, act in a responsible manner at all times, demonstrate leadership qualities, and treat all staff, youth, and persons with respect. This is a demanding position that requires maturity, reliability, and self-discipline. Career growth and advancement are encouraged through training and mentoring opportunities.
- Position requires the person to have a Waste Water Operator I Certification
- Plans and directs the maintenance operations of a DJJ Facility;
Supervises all shifts of maintenance staff. - Oversees maintenance for assigned DJJ facilities and grounds.
- Inspects and repairs all equipment.
- Completes preventative maintenance as needed; develops preventative maintenance plans.
- Orders necessary parts or supplies and maintains inventory.
- Schedules and coordinates all maintenance needs.
- Performs weekly, monthly, and quarterly inspections of facilities, equipment and grounds.
- Supervises all shifts of maintenance staff and outside vendors in needed repairs.
- Coordinates conditions for safety, sanitation and security devices with fire and safety personnel.
- Develops preventative maintenance plans.
- Conducts supervisory conferences and evaluates performance.
- Completes all required reports regarding needed repairs and keeps facility managers apprised of major issues.
- Attends conferences, trainings, and meetings as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
High school graduate.
Experience, Training, or
Skills:
Must have five years of building maintenance, grounds maintenance, general trades, skilled trades, moving services or mechanical maintenance experience. Some of the required experience must include both records keeping experience and limited or full responsibility for work of others.
Formal training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.

Working ConditionsIncumbents in this job title may be exposed to extreme temperatures which requires the following of safety procedures. Will be on call 24 hours a day.
Probationary PeriodThis job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
