About the team
The Professional and Technical Services Unit are an in-house shared service comprised of technical and design professionals responsible for specialist advice and services across the Council. The Contract Management team ensure that technical inputs align with organisational standards, delivery of optimal asset outcomes, and supports the successful delivery of projects.
About the roleYou’ll lead our internal technical services in Contract Management, ensuring the delivery of high-quality technical advice, design solutions and construction oversight. Working with Team Leaders, you’ll provide clear direction and support to ensure day-to-day activities are well coordinated and consistently meet organisational standards.
You’ll be responsible for ensuring all technical inputs align with standards, deliver strong outcomes, and enable successful project delivery. A collaborative approach is essential as you’ll be working closely with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors and Contract Managers to ensure projects meet scope, quality and Council objectives.
You’re an experienced contracts leader who brings credibility in large, complex environments and a passion for developing people and lifting service. You will be confident managing multiple complex problems at one time and excel at navigating cross-sector, multi-stakeholder environments using strong relationship management skills to deliver innovative and effective solutions. You will also have:
- A tertiary qualification at degree level in Engineering or similar
- Chartered/Registered/Licensed professional status
- 12+ years of experience working in a large organisation
- Extensive experience in a Contract Management technical environment
- Knowledge of Local Government legislation

Hours of work - 37.5 - 40 hours per week
Position - Permanent
Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street
