The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates 12 correctional facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior.

The Mechanical Maint & Operation Techn II at Little Sandy Correctional Complex (LSCC) performs technical duties in the maintenance and operation of mechanical systems, such as HVAC, refrigeration, ventilation, electrical systems, and associated equipment.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To The Following- Performs routine inspection and repairs to 12 emergency generators located on grounds at LSCC.
- Performs routine inspections and repairs to the geo-thermal heat pumps throughout the facility.
- Performs routine inspections and repairs to the sewer lift station.
- Performs routine inspection and repairs to kitchen equipment.
- Performs general maintenance and repairs to all areas in the facility, plumbing, carpentry, electrical as required to keep institution operating.
- Performs routine inspections and repairs to all 15 buildings and 5 state houses located on the grounds of LSCC.
- Performs routine inspections and repairs to one mile of security fencing located at LSCC.
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR
SKILLS:
Four years of experience in the maintenance or repair of HVAC, refrigeration, ventilation, or electrical systems.
Substitute EDUCATION for
EXPERIENCE:
Formal training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for
EDUCATION:
Experience in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age.
Working ConditionsMay be required to take care of emergency repairs twenty-four hours a day.
Probationary PeriodThis job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
