JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: SUBSTITUTE CUSTODIAN PRIMARY SUPERVISOR: PRINCIPAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Shall have demonstrated people skills to indicate ability to function in a team oriented environment.
- Shall have a high school diploma or GED Certificate as required by Kentucky law.
To perform routine custodial activities at an assigned school site or facility to maintain buildings, locker rooms and adjacent grounds areas in a clean, orderly and secure condition.
GENERAL DUTIES and PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES- Shall determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
- Shall present a positive image of the school to parents, and convey to them the school's genuine concern with the education, growth and development of each student.
- Shall seek to establish friendly and cooperative partnerships between home and school.
- Shall work to develop a positive public relationship between the school district and the community.
- Shall carry out assignments in a timely manner without undue checking.
- Shall react positively to directives.
- Shall have a willingness to cooperate with the superintendent, district administrators, principals and staff.
- Shall maintain the confidentiality, both verbally and in written form, of each student's educational records.
- Shall strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Shall take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Shall practice safe work ethics at all times.
- Shall adhere to School Board of Education Policies and Procedures.
- Shall develop with Supervisor a work schedule.
- Shall perform routine custodial activities at assigned District school site.
- Shall sweep, scrub, mop, wax and polish floors and vacuum rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices, workshops and other assigned work areas.
- Shall spot clean and shampoo carpets.
- Shall clean classrooms, restrooms, showers, locker rooms, shops, cafeteria, offices and related facilities as assigned in a safe and orderly manner.
- Shall sweep, mop and clean gymnasium floor as assigned.
- Shall spot mop spills and remove gum and debris.
- Shall monitor gym events to assure orderly behavior and to protect the building from damage.
- Shall clean tables, chairs and floors after lunch periods as assigned.
- Shall clean and disinfect drinking fountains, sinks, toilets, showers and urinals.
- Shall clean mirrors, tile and windows.
- Shall report safety, sanitary and fire hazards to appropriate authority.
- Shall report and recommend need for maintenance repairs to appropriate authority.
- Shall maintain security of buildings.
- Shall report suspicious or unauthorized individuals on campus.
- Shall report infractions of rules to supervisor.
- Shall wash windows and walls.
- Shall clean whiteboards, trays and erasers and empty pencil sharpeners.
- Shall assemble, move and arrange furniture, supplies and equipment in preparing classrooms and multi-purpose rooms for special events or meetings.
- Shall clean blinds, dust and polish furniture and woodwork and make minor, non-technical repairs as needed.
- Shall lock and unlock doors and gates as appropriate.
- Shall maintain security of assigned areas according to established guidelines.
- Shall pick up trash and debris around school grounds and in buildings.
- Shall sweep and clean walkways and entrances.
- Shall dispose of trash according to established procedures.
- Shall wash out trash cans and follow established sanitation procedures and standards.
- Shall pack, unpack, load, receive and store books, supplies, material and other items.
- Shall respond to emergency cleanups such as spills.
- Shall maintain records of observed maintenance, repair needs and safety issues.
- Shall participate in major summer cleaning projects as assigned.
- Shall plan, organize, lead and participate in a variety of custodial services.
- Shall provide minor repair and preventive maintenance for custodial equipment.
- Shall train custodial personnel in the proper techniques of custodial duties.
- Shall assign and review work and participate in custodial and routine maintenance activities as needed.
- Shall develop and prepare work schedules and assignments.
- Shall coordinate duties and assignments to assure effective operations.
