Overview
Position Description
Appalachian Citizens' Law Center is seeking a staff attorney to provide representation primarily in federal black lung benefits claims for coal miners and their survivors.
- Provide representation primarily in federal black lung benefits claims for coal miners and their survivors.
- Practice before the Office of Administrative Law Judges, the Benefits Review Board, U.S. District Courts and U.S. Courts of Appeals.
- Receive mentorship and develop expertise in this specialized area of law.
- Work for a nonprofit law firm that fights for justice in the Appalachian coalfields by representing citizens and communities affected by present and past abuses of the mining industry.
- Contribute to activities in federal black lung benefits, environmental protection, mine safety, sustainable energy, and economic analysis through research and policy work (as part of the organization’s scope).
The attorney will practice before the Office of Administrative Law Judges, the Benefits Review Board, U.S. District Courts and U.S. Courts of Appeals, with mentorship and support as they develop expertise in this specialized area of law.
