Owen Electric is currently seeking a qualified Human Resources and Administrative Generalist to support its employees and operations as it continues to grow and serve its communities.

Position Summary

The Human Resources and Administrative Generalist supports a wide range of human resources and administrative functions to ensure smooth day‑to‑day operations in the Corporate Services Department. This position assists with employee relations, recruitment, and compliance while also providing general management support such as employee records maintenance, and coordination of internal communications.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Supports all phases of the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and offboarding.
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified applicants; conducts background checks and verifies employee eligibility.
  • Assists employees and supervisors with questions related to policies, procedures, benefits, and labor agreements, referring complex matters to management as needed.
  • Acts as the first point of contact for employee complaints or workplace concerns; conducts initial interviews and gathers information for employee relations matters such as harassment or work complaints.
  • Participates in disciplinary meetings, investigations, and terminations as requested.
  • Maintains accurate records for personnel transactions, including hiring, transfers, promotions, leaves, and separations, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and internal policies.
  • Prepares and updates HR documentation such as policies, organizational charts, employee handbooks, labor agreements, and disciplinary forms.
  • Coordinates employee training, compliance tracking, and professional development activities.
  • Coordinates employee wellness initiatives and acts as a liaison for the Employee Assistance Program.
  • Plans and supports employee communication and recognition initiatives to promote morale and engagement, including employee events.
  • Conducts research and compiles reports on HR or labor relations topics as requested by management.
  • Maintains current knowledge of employment laws, collective bargaining agreements, and HR best practices to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Reviews and refines HR processes, recommending improvements aligned with organizational goals and regulatory updates.
  • Maintains organized electronic and physical filing systems, including consistent naming conventions, retention schedules, and secure storage of confidential records.
  • Coordinates the secure disposal of confidential company documents by following established retention policies and using approved methods such as shredding or certified destruction services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Thorough understanding of laws, regulations, and guidelines related to HR and contract negotiations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Associate’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business, Accounting, or related field preferred.
  • At least three years of human resource administration preferred.
  • SHRM‑CP or SHRM‑SC preferred or obtained within two years.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
