Overview

The Role

We have a permanent, full time vacancy for a motivated Senior Library Assistant to join our Knowledge Services team. You’ll support NHS Lanarkshire staff in accessing high-quality information for patient care, education, research, and clinical governance. You’ll deliver user support and education, handle enquiries, and carry out key admin tasks. Acting as a link between Library Assistants and Librarians, you’ll provide supervision, support, training, and site cover when needed.

You’ll support the Patient Information function with responsibility for key areas of this work. You will also help staff create Powtoon videos for patients and the public, offering guidance and training, and collaborating with librarians. This is a new post and will develop over time. The post will mainly be based at the Health Improvement Library at Kirklands HQ in Bothwell.

Regular travel to the 3 hospital library sites will be required, so being a car driver and having access to a car is essential. The hours are 9-5, Mon - Thurs, and 9-4.30 on Friday, although there is a limited amount of flexibility which can be discussed.

What we'll need you to bring
  • Excellent standard of literacy and numeracy.
  • SVQ3 Or Equivalent Qualification Or Skills Acquired Through Experience.
  • As ECDL Or Equivalent, Or Skills Acquired Through Experience.
The postholder is required to have a high level of computer literacy such as knowledge of information retrieval techniques for searching (e.g. the Knowledge Network). Knowledge of health information resources such as the internet and the Knowledge Network. Excellent customer care techniques to meet a range of customer interactions in a service environment.

Experience of presenting to groups of people, either face-to-face or using MS Teams. Must be prepared to work at any NHSL library site in Lanarkshire. Covers for the Resource Assistant if needed. Car driver. Must be able to travel and work at any library site. Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

Desirable
  • Experience of working in a customer focused service
  • Experience of supervising staff or directing the work of others
  • Previous experience of working in a library
  • Previous experience of working with patient information
  • Previous Experience Of Powtoon Or Other Video Software
  • Basic knowledge of information retrieval techniques for searching e.g. the Knowledge Network
  • Knowledge of library and office software applications
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (desirable)
  • Knowledge and understanding of Copyright Law and Data Protection legislation
  • Thorough understanding of a wide range of library routines
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Discretion in dealing with sensitive issues
