Job Summary/Purpose
The Courier is responsible for the safe, timely, and secure transport of medications, laboratory specimens, supplies, money bags, interoffice mail, IT equipment, and soiled cleaning materials between Harrison Memorial Hospital (HMH) and its affiliated Rural Health Clinics. The role plays a critical part in maintaining efficient clinic operations, regulatory compliance, and patient care support.
- Transport medications from HMH Clinic Pharmacy to designated Rural Health Clinics in accordance with safety and compliance protocols.
- Safely handle and deliver laboratory specimens to and from clinic locations, ensuring proper chain-of-custody procedures are followed.
- Pick up and deliver clinic supplies, IT materials, mail, and money bags as directed.
- Transport soiled cleaning materials and linens from clinics to designated locations at HMH for processing or disposal.
- Complete assigned routes in a timely and efficient manner, adjusting to weather or traffic conditions as needed.
- Accurately document all deliveries, pick-ups, and chain-of-custody transfers.
- Perform vehicle inspections prior to and after each shift to ensure safe operating condition.
- Maintain regular communication with supervisors and clinic staff to coordinate needs and report issues.
- Follow HIPAA, OSHA, DOT, and infection control standards related to all transported materials.
Role Minimum Qualifications
Required Education
- High school diploma or equivalent

- Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict handling protocols.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Professional communication skills and ability to interact respectfully with clinic and hospital staff.
- Physical ability to lift, load, and transport various types of packages and materials.
Preferred Education, Licensure and Certifications
- Prior experience in courier, delivery, or support services preferred, especially in a healthcare setting.
High School Graduate or equivalent preferred
