The Health, Safety, and Environmental Specialist is responsible for leading legislative health and safety efforts and developing and supporting all health and safety programs within the manufacturing facility.
Responsibilities- Maintains an appropriate level of awareness, knowledge, and preparedness across the facility to create a culture that prioritizes health, safety, and environmental policies and programs
- Develops safety programs and assumes a leading role in risk identification and mitigation
- Supports all levels of the organization to ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental programs, policies, and initiatives
- Monitors current legislation covering health, safety, and environmental programs
- Ensures operations adhere to government regulations and company policy
- Maintains an inspection program of facilities and equipment to identify industrial safety and environmental risks and recommends appropriate changes to reduce exposure
- Compiles and analyzes safety statistics and reports out on trends, recommendations, and successful mitigation practices to Senior Management
- Takes an active role in incident/accident investigations, ensuring that all investigations are carried out without delay, according to company policy, and that timely resolution is the top priority
- Ensures all incident/accident investigations include the identification and mitigation of the true root cause of the issue
- Devises, supervises, and coordinates training programs and media which will increase proficiency in safe work practices and promoting healthψει, safety, and environmental awareness
- Participates in project reviews and change management processes to identify EHS opportunities
- Works with local Management and Safety Committee to develop the annual safety plan and its delivery
- Facilitates meetings with Safety Committee to make recommendations to Management/pdf relevant to the health and safety program
- Ensures all local, regional, state, and federal safety and environmental reports are completed and submitted on time
- Monitors workers compensation and claims and related costs, fulfills reporting obligations to insurance carrier and follows up on claims
- Directs the Return to Work and Work Restriction Program to ensure return to work plans are developed and kort follow
- Maintains all safety and health records for the business, ensuring that all regulatory requirements have been met
- Supports other INOAC facilities through best practice sharing, second party audits, and global initiative development and implementation
- Perform work in accordance ISO
14001 standards as well as local, state, and Federal compliance - Performs other schweren related duties as assigned
Position requires work in both office and manufacturing environment. Standing, sitting, walking, reaching with hands and arms to perform keyboard entry and manipulation of computer accessories. Standing, sitting, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, use of hands to inspect parts, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, talking and hearing. Employee will occasionally lift and/or move product, tools, etc. Developmental training will be defined by the Department Manager and could be in-house or external to the company.
Qualifications/Requirements- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety or related field preferred
- High level of organization, maintaining records, inspections, open issues lists, etc.
- Strong ability to influence and hold self and others accountable to high standard of compliance and resolution
- Understanding of manufacturing including associated risks and mitigation techniques
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate verbally and in writing to all levels within the manufacturing facility
- Ability to work under pressure to achieve deadlines and to push open issues to completion
- Ability to lead small groups
- Ability and willingness to travel on occasion to support company safety program through second party audits, seeking best practices, and meeting with peers
- Strong computer skills in MS Office. ISO/QS knowledge is a plus.
