DescriptionThe Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates 12 correctional facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non‑criminal behavior.
ResponsibilitiesInclude, But Are Not Limited To The Following
- Supervises caseworkers, officers, and security supervisors.
- Assists in the coordination of all transfers at KSP.
- Oversees overall function of inmate housing areas.
- Contributes to classification committee actions.
- Participates in classification committee actions, risk assessments, job assignments, and disciplinary hearings.
- Monitors progress of assigned tasks to front‑line staff.
- Reviews security logs to ensure compliance.
- Monitors staff and inmate activity.
Education: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
Experience, training, or skills: Must have three years of experience in any operation or program within the field of corrections, law enforcement, criminal justice, or social work dealing with the rehabilitation of offenders. One year of the required experience must include supervisory experience in a custodial setting.
Substitute EDUCATION for
EXPERIENCE:
A master's degree in corrections, criminal justice, law enforcement, social work, sociology, counseling and guidance or related field will substitute for one year of the non‑supervisory experience.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for
EDUCATION:
Additional experience in corrections, law enforcement, criminal justice, or social work dealing with the rehabilitation of offenders will substitute for the education on a year‑for‑year basis.

Working ConditionsWork is generally performed within a correctional institution. Work environment is hazardous due to working in a state correctional facility with inmates.
Probationary PeriodThis job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
