The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates 13 correctional facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure, and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes. The DOC also provides opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior.

The Classification and Treatment Officers (CTOs) at Kentucky State Penitentiary are responsible for the classification of male and female inmates eligible to stay in the county jails including ones that return from shock probation, Mandatory Reentry Supervision (MRS), and parole.
Responsibilities- Interview, assess, evaluate, and counsel inmates to gather information for assessments.
- Project type and level of custody for controlled intake inmates.
- Review Courtnet.
- Recommend programming based on inmate’s needs.
- Complete National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) with appropriate status code.
- Utilize the Kentucky Offender Management System and enter information in to inmate files.
- Field phone calls from family members, jails, and other outside agencies.
- Serve on classification and adjustment committees.
- Prepare various reports.
- Provide guidance and direction to assist inmates in identifying needs and goals in accordance with individual and institutional requirements.
The ideal candidate for this position will have exceptional organizational skills, communication skills, time management, and computer skills. They must also be able to multi-task, work well under pressure and be a team player.
Minimum RequirementsEDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

Additional experience in corrections, law enforcement, or a related field will substitute for the education on a year for year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.

Probationary PeriodThis job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
